Major Positions: Assistant Director for Training, Home Service, American Red Cross; Assistant Director, Inter-American Unit & later Training Supervisor, International Service, U.S. Children’s Bureau. Labor Department; Social Affairs Officer, United Nations; Executive Secretary, American Association of Schools of Social Work; Educational Secretary, Associate Director, Executive Director & (with IASSW) Director of International Education, Council on Social Work Education; Secretary-General, International Association of Schools of Social Work.
International Activities: United Nations - Author, Training for Social Work: An International Survey, 1950; contributor to continuing follow-up studies of social work education; chair or member of UN & UNICEF seminars, working parties, & expert groups on training; special mission to Guatemala; official IASSW delegate at meetings of ministers of social welfare & other governmental bodies sponsored by the Social Commission & Economic and Social Council.U.S. Government sponsored or financed - Co-Chair (with sister of Vice-President Hubert Humphrey) of official delegation, Vth Pan-American Congress of Social Service, Venezuela; Director of the First Central American Seminar on Social Work Education, El Salvador; Director of the International Conference on Social Work Education,, Family Planning and Population, East -West Center, Hawaii; Director of six-year international project on social work education, family planning and population sponsored by IASSW. IASSW: From 1954 to 2002, annual or biennial trips, world-wide, to attend Board meetings of International Congresses; from 1971 to 1978, four to five trips annually to consult with governments and schools of social work, particularly in developing countries; officially representing IASSW as an NGO at UN, UNICEF for some 30 years and occasionally at the Organization of American States and UNESCO.
