Flynn, Marilyn S.

received her PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she remained as a member of the School of Social Work faculty until joining The University of Michigan faculty in 1985. She subsequently became Director of the School of Social Work at Michigan State University and Director of the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research. She was appointed Dean of Social Work at the University of Southern California in 1997 and is now entering her third term in that capacity. She has been continuously involved in international and comparative research throughout her career, beginning with work in Great Britain, Germany and Scandinavia on social security issues and long term care. More recently, her activities have centered on East Asia, especially in South Korea, Taiwan, and The People’s Republic of China. She is currently working on a book with the Institute of Population Research at Peking University on social work - East and West.
